''Okay, picture this, School of Comedy. It's a sketch show, and it's funny. Really funny. Funny like ha ha.''
Beth Rylance, School of Comedy Series 1
School of Comedy was set up by Laura Lawson and Tara Carr in 2005 for children to explore their own unique brand of improv, sketch and character comedy. Laura took the original troupe to the Edinburgh Festival in 2007 where they were given a Channel 4 pilot, followed by two hit E4 series.
For Laura and Tara School of Comedy was never really about the television. It was about the children loving the club and being able to perform on stage making people laugh, creating exciting new ideas, and watching their confidence grow week by week.
We would love the TV projects to run and run, but the platform for all the TV talent is where the heart of School of Comedy is - and that is the Clubs we run every week at the Tabernacle in Notting Hill, The Pembroke Castle in Primrose Hill and our original venue - The Tabard Theatre in Chiswick. Children of all ages, from all areas of London can come and join in, learn and be inspired.
